Superheroes Are Saving Fox

Indiewire

Nerds and Geeks await their thank-you’s! H/T to Tracking Board for this in-depth article.

Who knew? Who would have predicted this ridiculous character from a horrible movie would end up fronting one of the most successful superhero flicks ever made? Sure, there were lots of fans from the character’s time in the comic books, but come on, plenty of times over the years those “fans” didn’t translate into good box office, simply because the quality wasn’t there so they didn’t bother to show up or, if they did, they weren’t enough to make a dent.

Who’s Going To Play Cable In Deadpool?

Nerds and Geeks breathlessly await what is said to be the imminent news of the casting decision for Cable in Deadpool 2. Who do you think it will be? Comics Alliance gives us some possible insight:

“A few actors have been floated as contenders for Cable, a formidable mutant who shares a significant history with Deadpool in the comics. Kyle Chandler, Dolph Lundgren and Stranger Things star David Harbour have all been eyed for the role, but the casting process has taken a little longer as Wernick and Reese and director David Leitch search for the perfect fit. The writers say they’re specifically looking for “someone with a great deadpan thing where they can react to someone who’s being crazy,” but the casting of Cable is also key to Fox’s franchise plans, as Wernick explains:

They’ve got X-Force coming up. Cable is head of the X-Force so it’s someone who can also command a movie franchise. It’s a tall task and we have been on the hunt for a very long time. I think once it’s announced, as we get closer, people are gonna go crazy for it.”

We’re going to go out on a limb here with ‘none of the above’ but we’ll keep you posted the moment we hear anything! While you wait, check out the Deadpool 2 No Good Deed teaser at the link below.

Ryan Reynolds just went to Twitter to make the case that Deadpool should receive some very prestigious film awards. What do you think? Have a look at the tweet below before you make your decision.

Ryan Reynolds Has Nice Things To Say About Tim Miller

Nice to see Reynolds taking the high road on this creative separation. “In an interview with GQ, the 2016 Man of the Year addressed how he feels about Miller’s departure. Reynolds considers himself closer to the project than anyone after spending more than a decade trying and failing and ultimately succeeding in getting his vision of the merc with a mouth onscreen, so he wasn’t about to let anyone else step on his vision.

“All I can really add is that I’m sad to see him off the film,” Reynolds said at the end of the interview. “Tim’s brilliant and nobody worked harder on Deadpool than he did.””

Forbes Says Schwartzenegger Should Be Cable In Deadpool 2

Etubideadpool“The last several days saw a one-two punch to the superhero cinematic genre, with two high-profile projects losing their directors. The other day, we learned filmmaker Rick Famuyiwa left Warner Bros.’ The Flash movie over creative differences (and I should have an article up about that this weekend, so stay tuned).

But a few days earlier, news broke that Fox’s Deadpool sequel will no longer be helmed by Tim Miller. The gist of Miller’s departure is that there were disagreements over the right approach to the sequel, and some personality disputes between the director and star Ryan Reynolds. As Deadpool 2 searches for a new director, it’s worth talking about the series’ connection to a particular brand of historic action cinema, and how that connection leads to the obvious fact Arnold Schwarzenegger should be cast as the time-traveling hero Cable in Deadpool 2.” Read more on this idea here

Uh Oh… Now Deadpool’s Composer Has Walked

deadpoolQuick note to let you know this movie is in danger of production hell. “If you were worried about Deadpool 2 when director Tim Miller left the project not too long ago, this news isn’t going to make you feel any better.

Junkie XL, aka Tom Holkenborg, made a post on Facebook today revealing that in solidarity with Tim Miller, he has also decided to leave the sequel, and his reasoning certainly adds some more cause for concern.” More on this story at SlashFilm.

Director David Leitch Hired For Deadpool 2.

EtubideadpoolFrom Slashfilm. Click on the link for more on this story: “Leitch has a history with Reynolds, as he was the stunt coordinator on X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which introduced the actor as a different version of Deadpool.

I have watched Leitch work on a couple of set visits, and I remember really being impressed by what I saw on The Wolverine. I think any fan of John Wick will be excited about Leitch as an option for the Deadpool sequel, and his attachment would also ensure that the movie would not put action and stylized action in the backseat.

David Leitch started as a stuntman on the Trey Parker and Matt Stone film Orgazmo, and worked his way up the ladder over the last two decades. He was Brad Pitt’s stunt double on Fight Club and worked on Blade, Daredevil, The Matrix sequels, and more. He progressed to stunt coordinator on V For Vendetta and held the role on X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Speed Racer, and Tron: Legacy.”

Talk of More Deadpool Films, Weasel Spinoff

deadpoolMore Deadpool films wasn’t too big a surprise considering the success of the first. The Weasel spinoff was a bit more interesting. T.J. Miller spoke with Cinemablend about Weasel: “Deadpool is not going anywhere anytime soon. I think there’s probably going to be three more installments, a Weasel spin off. I’m contractually obliged to do the cameos in other X-Men universe stuff, so there’s plenty more Deadpool to come.”
