Featured Band: Kaoteon

KAOTEON is an unusual east-west international extreme metal collaboration, originally hailing from the Middle East but now based in Amsterdam. For their new album, Damnatio Memoriae, full-time members Anthony Kaoteon (Death Drive) on guitar and vocalist Walid Wolflust (Ordum, ex-Gothmog) tapped the distinctive talents of bass wizard Linus Klausenitzer of Obscura and drum master Fredrik Widigs of Marduk as guests. After performing with them live for the first time in Beirut in April at the Beirut Metal Fest, Klausenitzer described KAOTEON as, “legends of the Lebanese metal scene”.  The album drops February 23. Click below for album tracks and the video to Damnatio Memoriae.

Featured Band – Atala

Atala Facebook

Well, this will certainly wake you up in the morning! Hard-driving Atala is based out of the SoCal desert military town of Twentynine Palms. The band’s new album, Labyrinth of Ashmedai, charges with the production talents of fellow Twentynine Palms native Billy Anderson, otherwise recognized for his work with colossal bands such as Sleep, Melvins, and Mastodon.

Atala’s homebase is located very close to famed Joshua Tree National Park (an area the band calls “a tourist trap” that other bands describe as a “serene” and “meditative” place to perform and record), but they choose to source alternative inspiration from the grittier aspects of their desert surroundings. “We feel more sullen in our outlook,” says guitarist/frontman Kyle Stratton. “Not only do we deal with weather reaching nearly 130 degrees, we see and experience the effects of true struggles – war, poverty, death, drugs, gang violence, prostitution and murder – quite often. Gun stores, casinos, churches, liquor stores, bars, wild animals and greed-based-politics just touch the surface of what our town offers. Without going into too much detail… it’s no easy life for us out here. Our music is a mirror that reflects the truth of our personal life experiences.”

Atala have performed at festivals such as Maryland Doom Fest and Holland’s Roadburn Festival, and have shared the stage with bands such as Pallbearer, Baroness, Chelsea Wolf, The Obsessed, Coven, 16, Coliseum, Green Jelly and many others. Click the link below for more info on the band and to see their videos for Grains of Sand and a Mini-Documentary + “Tabernacle Of”:. The documentary is really cool as it really shows the band in their environment and all their awesome dogs!

Featured Band: Terror Universal

Made up of current and former members of Machine Head, Ill Niño, Soulfly, and Upon A Burning Body, Terror Universal joined together to exercise their love for horror flicks and mosh-ready anthem metal without putting too much hard focus on themselves as people – hence the masks and anonymity (aside from Dave Chavarri, who has come out as a member of the band since their formation). Terror Universal has just dropped a new album – Make Them Bleed. Make Them Bleed features the talents of guest bassists John Moyer (Disturbed, Art of Anarchy, ex-Adrenaline Mob) and Tony Campos (Fear Factory, Ministry, Soulfly, Static-X). Campos appears on the track “Dead On Arrival”, and Moyer appears on “Spines”. Make Them Bleed was produced by members the band, and mixed by Eddie Wohl (Smile Empty Soul, Fuel, Ill Niño, 36Crazyfists).

Make Them Bleed can be pre-ordered right now via Bandcamp, or via the band’s brand new PledgeMusic campaign, with incentives including digital download cards, signed CDs, limited edition posters, t-shirts, stickers, limited edition blood-splatter vinyl, signed gear (including a guitar, drumhead and drum sticks), one-on-one music lessons, and more.

You can listen to ‘Make Them Bleed via the link below. Put this album on your music mix next time you’re working out at the gym. Guaranteed you’ll lift AT LEAST 5000 pounds. The album drops Jan 19.
