Book Review 15/52 – Power Nap By Maritza Campos + Bachan

power_napPart of our 52 books in 52 weeks series. Power Nap is a weird, trippy, online illustrated novel which has been chugging along with an Indiegogo campaign for a while now. Written by Maritza Campos and illustrated by Bachan, they’re currently into book 7 at roughly 22 illustrated chapters/pages each. In the world of Power Nap, everyone is taking drugs to keep themselves awake except for our hero who can’t because he’s allergic. Worse, he’s in an employment situation that allows him very little sleep. He begins to see strange things but gradually becomes convinced they aren’t hallucinations from his exhaustion. If that’s not all, it appears that everyone is in on keeping him believing he’s just going crazy seeing stuff. But why are these strange, very destructive events happening and why is everyone trying to pretend everything is fine? You’ll see once you start reading.

Fortunately, Power Nap is an easy read and there’s not that much of it out there yet, even with seven chapters/books. You could easily knock it off in an evening but the art will certainly make you want to take your time. There’s a lot to look at. Kind of reminds me of Heavy Metal at times. As far as this review is concerned, I’m really happy with the comic and am lookng forward to more. Wanna read Power Nap? The archives are here.
