Featured Band: Kaoteon

Bandcamp

KAOTEON is an unusual east-west international extreme metal collaboration, originally hailing from the Middle East but now based in Amsterdam. For their new album, Damnatio Memoriae, full-time members Anthony Kaoteon (Death Drive) on guitar and vocalist Walid Wolflust (Ordum, ex-Gothmog) tapped the distinctive talents of bass wizard Linus Klausenitzer of Obscura and drum master Fredrik Widigs of Marduk as guests. After performing with them live for the first time in Beirut in April at the Beirut Metal Fest, Klausenitzer described KAOTEON as, “legends of the Lebanese metal scene”.  The album drops February 23. Click below for album tracks and the video to Damnatio Memoriae.

Trailer – Rise Of L.A. Thrash Metal

Adrenaline

We normally like to post a featured band but today we’re giving you a whole mess of them: The early L.A. thrash metal scene, in fact. From the official release (Inside Metal)…

Throughout history, the San Francisco Bay Area has long been deemed as the epicenter for thrash metal, whereas Los Angeles has invariably been considered the stomping ground for glam and hair metal. True, San Francisco has birthed many exceptional thrash bands since the early ’80s, but the fact remains – Los Angeles is the rightful birthplace of three of the “Big 4” thrash bands and is the breeding grounds for unconventional thrash/punk-metal bands. From legendary thrash icons Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth, to punk/metal renegades Suicidal Tendencies and combative thrash stalwarts Dark Angel and Hirax, they all generated from this pretentious, megalopolis hellhole we call Los Angeles. Video and more at the link below…

Today Is Ronnie James Dio’s Birthday

Team Rock

One of the greatest heavy metal/rock singers of all time. Ronald James Padavona, better known by his stage name Ronnie James Dio, was an American singer, songwriter, and musician. He fronted and/or founded numerous groups including Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio, and Heaven & Hell. I had the chance to see Dio in Syracuse, NY in 1985 and it was an incredible show – Dio’s voice live was as strong as the studio and he even played Heaven and Hell. Have a look at some of his videos via the link below.
