We’ve been following Tracey Birdsall and the gang and are psyched to let you know Rogue Warrior: Robot Fighter is coming to VOD! Who doesn’t like shooting robots?

Following a successful theatrical run, Sony Pictures’ Rogue Warrior : Robot Fighter is coming to VOD August 15.

The Neil Johnson directed film, described as a mix of “Mad Max” and “Star Wars”, is a science fiction film set in the distant future depicting the overthrow of humanity by artificial intelligence on Earth and other worlds. One Of The Greatest SciFi Magazines Is Now Available For Free Online

TEOTI

Fans of classic pulp will be delighted at this news. Also, it’s a treasure trove of who’s who in early scifi writing. This site is worth a visit!

Via The Verge:

If you like classic science fiction, one of the genre’s best magazines can now be found online for free. Archive.org is now home to a collection of Galaxy Science Fiction, which published some of the genre’s best works, such as an early version of Ray Bradbury’sFahrenheit 451 and Alfred Bester’s The Demolished Man.

The collection contains 355 separate issues, ranging from 1950 through 1976. Open Culture notes that it’s not quite the entire run of the magazine, but it’s got plenty of material to keep fans occupied for years. It includes stories from science fiction legends such as Isaac Asimov, Robert A. Heinlein, Clifford Simak, and Theodore Sturgeon. There are also some underappreciated authors who deserve re-discovery, such as Kris Neville, Alan E. Nourse, or John Christopher. (Sadly, like most publications of this era, female SF authors were underrepresented.)

Galaxy Science Fiction was a digest magazine founded by editor Horace Leonard Gold, after the Second World War. During this time, the science fiction field was in flux. The scene’s biggest publication, Astounding Science Fiction, was starting to lose its edge, while American readers had more entertainment options, like radio, novels, or television.

So You Want To Be A Cyborg? Here’s Your Chance.

“A man with metal horns protruding from his forehead and a split tongue poking out between his teeth advanced toward me with a scalpel. “I’ve never done this before,” he joked, inching closer.

A full-sleeve tattoo snaked out from beneath his black T-shirt, extending from a demon on his bicep to a skull on his fist. My eyes darted between skull and scalpel, then instinctively shut as I cringed, bracing for contact. Zack Watson, the inked-up body modification artist I’d hired — and drove seven hours from New York City to see — was about to sew a magnet under my skin.” More below the fold.

How many times have we seen movies where the aliens land and it’s always the same thing (except maybe in Close Encounters of the Third Kind)? They surprise us at the wrong time like a bad visit from the in-laws, and then demand something or even worse, announce they’re gonna be sticking around for a while – like the in-laws.

“The prospect of aliens visiting Earth has been percolating through human thought for decades, thanks to countless sci-fi books and movies, such as the newly released filmArrival.” But it’s still not clear how we would deal with the real thing.”
